There’s a story about a man who wanted to buy a bus ticket from SA to Houston, and was told the bus was late, but going to run today.  He bought a ticket, and noticed a machine which said, “For a quarter, I can tell you about your life.” Being bored, he faced the machine and inserted a quarter.  Back came the immediate answer.. “Your name is Joe Smith, you live in San Antonio, and you just bought a bus ticket to Houston, but the bus is late.” Joe was stunned.. he did not believe what had just happened!  So he stuck in another quarter, faced the machine and out came the answer… “Your name is still Joe Smith, you still live in San Antonio, and the bus is still late.” Joe is flabbergasted!   He runs into the gift shop at the bus station, buys a Groucho Marks nose, glasses, and mustache, then goes to the Men’s room and puts it all together.   He goes back to the machine, takes off his jacket, musses his hair, and inserts a quarter.   Back comes the reply… “You look a lttle weird, but your name is still Joe Smith, you still live in San Antonio, and you now have a worthless bus ticket to Houston, because you fooled around and missed the bus!” Imagine Joe’s reaction now!

This is so like most Americans.  A vast majority miss Christmas, just like Joe Smith missed the bus.  Oh, they go to Christmas parties, do Christmas shopping; wrap and give gifts that sustain the retail economy for another year.  We eat Christmas dinners and decorate our houses with Christmas lights (boy, can that strain a budget), and travel to Grandma’s House for Christmas, and put up a fine tree, even if it is artificial.  We are so busy “doing Christmas”, that we forget the message of Christmas.  Thousands sit down Christmas Eve, or Christmas morning, hidden behind the Groucho mask of presents and activities, having missed the whole idea and message of the Remembering of Jesus.

Find out what the meaning of Christmas really is… the coming of the Anointed One.  Nothing else.  Oh, we celebrate in all sorts of ways, just like we do on the Day of Thanks.  And, just like missing the point on the giving of thanks, we miss the real spirit of Christmas.  We get so involved with the celebration, we forget whose birth is being remembered… and why.  Take some time this year, and discover the Person who began the whole thing.. Yeshua ben Joseph, the Son of Mary, the Son of David, the Son of Righteousness, the Son of God… The Messiah, The Deliverer, The Savior, The Lily of the Valley, The King of Kings and Lord of Lords, The Alpha and The Omega, The Beginning and The Ending.  We call Him Jesus, “for He shall save His people from their sin. Are you one of His people?  Would you like to be?              Whaddayathink?
